JAKARTA– Riau Governor Abdul Wahid’s Plan to Rename the Kaharuddin Nasution Stadium has sparked widespread criticism. National figure and former DPR member Sayed Abubakar Abdullah Assegaf stated that the policy lacks clear direction and reflects a crisis of priorities in the Riau provincial government.
“The name Kaharuddin Nasution is not just a name, it’s a historical legacy and a symbol of appreciation for the services and identity of the Riau people,” Sayed said. Renaming the stadium would be a form of disrespect to the values of dedication.
Sayed assessed that Governor Abdul Wahid’s move shows a lack of ideas and indecisiveness in determining public policy direction. Leaders should focus on fundamental issues like economic improvement, education, health, and infrastructure development.
Meanwhile, Riau KNPI Chairman Larshen Yunus also criticized the governor, saying, “Ajo Wahid is a leader with many words but little action.” He added that the governor’s 100-day performance was a total failure and that he was more focused on spreading pessimism and showcasing his wealth.
The chairman expressed his concerns about the governor’s priorities, stating that the people need real changes, not just name changes. “The people don’t need name changes, they need changes in their fate,” he emphasized.
Sayed called on the Riau community to preserve the name Kaharuddin Nasution, saying it was not just about the name but about dignity, self-respect, and historical values. “Renaming the stadium is rewriting history, and history should be respected and preserved, not erased,” he concluded. (*)
