PowerNetizen.com – A resident was killed, and another critically injured in an attack on a hauling guard post in Dusun Muara Kate, Muara Langon Village, Muara Komam District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. The incident occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 4:30 AM local time. The deceased was identified as Rusel (60), while Anson (55) sustained severe injuries.
According to Muara Komam Subdistrict Head Mustafa, the guard post was set up by residents to monitor coal trucks passing through public roads following several fatal accidents, including one that claimed the life of a pastor. The Paser Regency Government had previously issued a temporary suspension on coal transportation using public roads.
Paser Police Chief AKBP Novy Adi Wibowo stated that the case is under investigation. The victims were found with slash wounds on their bodies. Meanwhile, the Samarinda Legal Aid Institute (LBH Samarinda) suspected the incident was linked to violations by coal companies that continue to use public roads, contrary to East Kalimantan Regional Regulation No. 10 of 2012.
The police and local government are urged to resolve the root cause of the conflict related to coal transportation, which is perceived as endangering residents’ safety.
