Beijing, PowerNetizen.com – Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who visited Beijing this week. During the meeting, Xi expressed his hopes to Prabowo for a “new chapter” in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

As reported by AFP on Saturday (November 9, 2024), Xi held talks with Prabowo in Beijing on Saturday, local time. China is Prabowo’s first international destination since he assumed the presidency of Indonesia in October.

Speaking to reporters, Xi told Prabowo that China looks forward to collaborating with Indonesia “to write a new chapter of independence, solidarity, and cooperation, with mutually beneficial results as major developing countries.”

Beijing and Jakarta are key economic allies, though the two nations have occasionally clashed verbally over disputes in the South China Sea.

In his statement to Xi, Prabowo said that relations between the two countries “are growing stronger and stronger.”

“I would like to reaffirm our commitment… to work together for the mutual benefit of our two nations and for the prosperity, peace, and stability of all of Asia,” Prabowo stated during the meeting.

Xi hosted a welcoming ceremony for Prabowo at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday, before the two leaders held their discussions.
